About the Accommodations
In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay in comfortable hotels with private bathrooms, ideal for relaxing before and after your journey to Mustang.
During the Mustang Jeep Tour, you’ll spend your nights in traditional teahouses and local lodges located in the heart of Mustang’s remote villages. These accommodations are simple but atmospheric, offering an authentic glimpse into local mountain life. Rooms are usually private (twin beds), and bedding is provided. While basic, the lodges are clean and welcoming, and extra blankets are available at higher altitudes where nights can be cold.
Facilities such as bathrooms and showers are generally shared and vary in quality. Hot showers may be available for a small fee. Dining areas are cozy and serve as warm gathering places in the evenings.
Electricity and Wi-Fi may be available in some locations, often for a fee, but expect limited or no connectivity in more remote areas. Power cuts are common, so bringing a power bank is recommended.
Please note: it is not always possible to book single rooms in the remote lodges of Mustang.
About the Meals
During the Mustang leg of the tour, all meals are included. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served in the lodges or teahouses where you stay. You’ll have a choice of meals from a menu that typically includes dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), Tibetan bread, momos (dumplings), noodles, pasta, soups, and more. Vegetarian options are always available.
In Kathmandu and Pokhara, breakfast is included at your hotel. For lunch and dinner, you are free to explore and try the many excellent local restaurants at your leisure.
Tea and coffee are included with your meals in Mustang. Other drinks, such as soda or bottled beverages, are available for purchase.
We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. In most places, you can fill it with filtered or boiled water for a small fee. Bottled water is available but discouraged due to plastic waste in this fragile environment.

About the Activities
This journey through Mustang is a cultural and scenic overland adventure. You’ll travel by jeep through one of the most unique landscapes in Nepal—characterized by vast canyons, windswept plateaus, red cliffs, ancient monasteries, and traditional Tibetan-style villages.
Each day includes short walks, monastery visits, and cultural stops. Although you won’t be trekking, you will still be spending time at high altitude (up to 3,800 meters), so staying hydrated and taking it slow is important. The tour is designed for comfort but still allows for exploration and meaningful contact with the local culture.
Roads in Mustang can be rough, bumpy, and dusty, especially after Jomsom. Your experienced driver will navigate these conditions safely. We recommend bringing warm layers, a scarf or mask for dust, and a spirit of adventure!
Additional Days
Would you like to stay longer in Lo Manthang or add extra nights in Pokhara? No problem—this tour can be customized to your wishes. Additional charges may apply depending on your choices.
You can also combine this tour with another trek or cultural tour in Nepal. Just let us know!
Special Insurance
Travel insurance is required for this tour and should include medical coverage and emergency evacuation. While helicopter evacuation is unlikely on a jeep tour, it’s still wise to be prepared for emergencies in remote areas.
FAQ
1. What is the best time to visit Nepal for a tour?
The best time to visit Nepal for a tour is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. The weather is mild, and the skies are clear, providing the best views of the mountains and lush landscapes. Avoid the monsoon season (June to August) due to heavy rainfall.
For Mustang all seasons are possible. Rain season doesn’t affect this area this much what is making Summer a perfect time to visit as well. Please know that in winter it can be quite cold.
Do I need a visa to visit Nepal?
Yes, most foreign visitors require a visa to enter Nepal. Tourist visas can be obtained on arrival at the airport or through the Nepali embassy in your country. Visas are typically valid for 15, 30, or 90 days.
Do I need a guide and porter?
Yes, all of our tours come with a local, English-speaking guide. They are knowledgeable about the area and culture, and their expertise will help you gain a deeper understanding of Nepal. Our guides are also friendly and ensure your comfort and safety throughout your trip.
Porters can carry your heavy bags if needed, allowing you to enjoy the tour and bring your belongings if needed.
Beyond safety and convenience, hiring local guides and porters also helps support the local economy. Tourism is a major source of income for many Nepali families, especially in remote areas. By choosing to travel with a guide and porter, you are directly contributing to their livelihood, ensuring they have a fair wage and sustainable employment. Many guides and porters have years of experience and valuable knowledge of the areas you are traveling, making your tour both more interesting and fun.
Is it safe to travel in Nepal?
Yes, Nepal is generally considered safe for travelers. Like any destination, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings, especially in busy areas. We recommend traveling with a reputable tour company, like Sherpa Trekking, for a smoother and safer experience.
What type of accommodation can I expect on a tour?
On most tours, you’ll stay in comfortable or deluxe hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara. In remote areas like Mustang, you will have the option to stay in local lodges or guesthouses. Rooms are typically basic but clean. More luxury hotels are also possible but prices in the rural areas can quickly go up.
In Chitwan you can choose to stay in a basic hotel or experience more comfort in a jungle resort with pool.
Mostly you can say that the more remote the area is the more basic the facilities will be.
How physically demanding are the tours?
Our tours vary in difficulty. Cultural tours and monastery visits, such as to Namo Buddha, are easy and suitable for all ages. More challenging tours, like those to Mustang or Chitwan, may involve some (light) trekking but are still accessible for most people with basic fitness.
In the end it all depends on your wishes. We can customize every tour to your level of fitness and requirements.
What should I pack for my tour in Nepal?
We recommend packing comfortable walking shoes, light clothing for warmer days, and warmer layers for cooler evenings.
For tours in remote areas, bring a water bottle and purifying tablets.
Make sure to check with your guide what to bring according to the area and weather.
Is travel insurance necessary?
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is essential. It should cover:
- Medical expenses and trip cancellations.
- And when visiting higher areas: Emergency evacuation (helicopter rescue).
Without the necessary insurance we can’t offer you our services.
What’s included in the Tour cost?
Tour packages include airport transfers, permits, accommodation, guide and logistics support.
Domestic flights or other transportation are not included, unless stated otherwise in the itinerary or trip details.
Personal items and clothing, travel insurance, meals and drinks, tips, souvenirs and international flights are not included.
We’ll give you a clear breakdown before you book.
